Sarah has always found it difficult categorising her work, often settling on ‘textual art’ as the best description for her use of mixed mediums to create contemporary artwork with a rustic charm.
Sarah trained as an Interior Designer at Manchester Metropolitan University and then worked for several Architects in and around Liverpool & Manchester. But her passion was always for art and she would paint whenever she had a spare moment.
“Then I met Farmer Tom and everything changed, I moved to Scotland and became a Farmer’s wife! From Interior Design to lambing!
In my new farm surrounding painting, animals was a natural progression, a corner of the cattle shed became my new studio and gave me the freedom to go wild (get messy). My experimental use of different materials like fabric samples and plaster helps me add texture, character and brings the picture out from the canvas.
I started doing local Craft markets as an outlet for my artwork and have slowly worked up to launching myself at events like Country Living and The Royal Highland Show. Some of my commissions can be found hanging in The Lake at the Port of Menteith restaurant, Kings Home, Bar 10 and homes from New Zealand to America.” Quote from Sarah Spofforth
